Harnett County Divorce & Separation
How Much Does It Cost?
If you’re contemplating a divorce in the Harnett County area, certainly one of your chief concerns is how much it is going to cost you. A divorce brews such financial uncertainty that as a Harnett divorce attorney, I completely understand why not getting a set fee quote from a divorce attorney is so frustrating. The problem with set fees is that it is almost impossible for a family law attorney, (divorce attorney) to predict exactly how much work it’s going to take to get you divorced. You and your divorce attorney are only one-half (and sometimes one-third) of the puzzle. Your spouse and their divorce attorney, along with the Court’s schedule, make it difficult to pinpoint your bottom line legal fees to obtain a divorce in North Carolina.
Uncontested Divorce / Contested Divorce
So often a client will tell me that their divorce will be uncontested. That’s great, but not often the reality. Reaching an agreement before you hire an divorce attorney on all issues is rare. Oftentimes a spouse will “promise” to do something, only to change their mind during the process after consultation with family, friends and legal counsel. My goal is not to stir up conflict between spouses who have reached an agreement. However, I think it’s my ethical obligation to point out inconsistencies with what you and your spouse have agreed to with what is allowable by the North Carolina Family Code. In the end, the decision is yours to make. But my value to you as an experienced Harnett divorce attorney is really knowing divorce law and family law in general. I study our code, attend many continuing legal education courses each year (far more than is required), and read and evaluate every family law appellate case that is decided. While you may feel yours is not a complicated divorce case, each particular fact of your case can have a tremendous impact on your result.
Uncontested Divorce Prices
If you and your spouse have reached an agreement on all issues, and can proceed in an uncontested manner, I can offer you a flat fee to get divorced. At the end of your initial consultation with me, I will be able to advise you as to whether I believe we can proceed on a flat-fee basis. If yes, here are my rates:
- Uncontested divorce with no children and no property: $999.00 (plus court filing fee)
- Uncontested divorce with no children: $1,300.00 (plus court filing fee)
- Uncontested divorce with children and no property: $1,300.00 (plus court filing fee)
- Uncontested divorce with children and property: $1,800.00 (plus court filing fee)
One-half of the balance (plus filing fees) is due at contract signing. The remaining balance is due in 30 days. Custom possession orders are an additional $300.00.
